Testing of Dead Birds for West Nile Virus

The Mississippi County Health Department is requesting that citizens report dead bird sightings for assessment, investigation, and possible submission of specimens for testing.  Testing of dead birds will begin April 7, 2003.  Testing priority will be given to crows, blue jays and birds of prey.  The Department of Health and Senior Services will not test any more birds from zip code areas that have had birds that tested positive in the past.  Charleston 63834 is the only zip code in Mississippi County that has had a positive test result from a bird submitted.  No more birds will be tested from the Charleston zip code area.
