Free Eye Screening
The Department of Social Services(DSS) is sponsoring a free eye screening clinic in Mississippi County on March 27, 2003. The clinic will be held at the Mississippi County Health Department in Charleston from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The examinations will be conducted by the University of Missouri Hospital & Clinics' Department of Ophthalmology of Columbia, with assisstance from DSS Prevention of Blindness Unit.
Persons attending the clinic will be screened for such visual disorders as cataracts, glaucoma, diabetic retinaopathy and macular degeneration, as well as malformation or malfunctions of the eye, such as strabismus (crossed-eyes) and other vision problems.
Those attending the clinic who are diagnosed as having a visual problem that requires specific treatment and further examination will be referred for follow-up treatment. Persons who meet Prevention of Blindness (POB) eligibility guidelines will be assissted by POB program staff with needed eye care services.
